Thank you for your thoughtful comments. You are correct – there are often slight differences in the state and local copies of tax records but we believe that the vast majority of information in this volume is replicated in the state copy. Given that and the limited budget we now have for item conservation, we must make very careful choices about what items we are able to conserve.

I am afraid that I will have to respectfully disagree. There are sometimes definite differences between versions of a tax list that can provide information regarding both the process and the people. While restoration may not be a viable choice because of cost or other factors one should not assume that this is simply a copy of information in the state copy. Much of it probably is, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all of it is. The small portion visible strongly suggests that it is not a duplicate of the state copy and that it contains information not available in the state copy.
