Lewter F. Hobbs (1873-1934)
Lewter F. Hobbs, the son of J.E. and Jane Hobbs, was born on 18 December 1873, in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Hobbs married Mary A. Peake (1873-1946) on 23 October 1895 in Hampton, Virginia. The couple had two children: Margaret Jane Hobbs (Frame) (1899-1981) and Leland Floyd Hobbs (1907-1981). Hobbs operated a transfer company in Hampton. At the time of the murder of his sister Ida V. Belote in 1912, Hobbs ran a general business supply company in Norfolk. Hobbs died of a heart attack on 11 March 1934 and is buried in St. John’s Cemetery in Hampton.
