  • John Powell (1882-1963).  John Powell was a well-known pianist and composer from Richmond, Virginia.  He also supported the eugenics movement in Virginia including supporting the Racial Integrity Act of 1924.

  • Louis I. Jaffé (1888-1950). Louis Jaffé was editor of the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot from 1919 to his death in 1950.  Jaffé was a civil rights activist and promoted Virginia’s 1928 anti-lynching law.
