Richmond City Election Return, February 6, 1861, Virginia Convention (1861: Richmond), Records, 1861–1961, Acc. 40586, State Government Records Collection, Record Group 93, Library of Virginia.
Two days after the February 4, 1861, election of delegates to the Virginia Convention, the election officers in the city of Richmond certified the results. Two opponents of secession and one advocate of secession were elected to represent the city, and the city's voters divided almost evenly on whether to require the convention to submit a decision for secession to a ratification referendum.
