Abstract

Letter, 14 November 1863, from John E. Rastall, Drummondtown, Virginia, to family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In his letter he mentions arriving in the 'howling wilderness' of the Eastern Shore, efforts to recruit African American soldiers, and the possibility that he may have to travel through Maryland and Pennsylvania to gather up wounded soldiers that had been left behind.
