Robert Allen Jewell was born 10 April 1922 in Montgomery County, Virginia. He was inducted into military service 19 December 1942. Serving in Battery C, 478th antiarcraft artillery, he saw action in New Guinea and the Philippines. Jewell was honorably discharged 14 January 1946. After the war, Jewell worked as an engineer on the Radford Division of Norfolk and Western Railroad. He married Maggie Leen Dickerson (1919-1993) 23 February 1952, and they had 4 children. Jewell died 3 March 2009 in Salem, Virginia, and was burried in Piedmont Cemetery in Montgomery County.
