William Allen Briley (Alan) was born 10 October 1914 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He relocated to Jarrett, Virginia, located on the border of Greensville and Sussex Counties, Virginia, and became a farmer. He entered the United States Army 23 August 1944 and served in the 36th Division until 2 July 1946. After World War II ended, he returned to Jarratt and worked as a fireman for Georgia-Pacific. Briley married Mamie Louise Horne (1909-1997) 28 December 1937. He died in Emporia, Virginia, 28 October 1986, and was buried in High Hills Cemetery in Jarratt.
