Abstract

Papers, 1860-1865, including letters, military exemption, and reminiscences of the Frantz and McCauley families of Roanoke, Virginia. Included are letters to and from Marshall Petty Frantz, William McCauley, Charles Austin McCauley, Susan McCauley and Virginia McCauley. Topics include family, health, camp life, battle of New Market, Jackson's Valley Campaign, prisoners in Salem (Va.), and requests for flour. The collection also contains a service exemption for W.S. Bowman, an undated plat from Salem, Virginia, and recollections by M.M. Rodeffer.
