Abstract

Paul Godwin was born 7 October 1893 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, to John Godwin (1859-1941) and Evelyn Mathews Godwin (1871-1956). Godwin enlisted in the United States Army 26 May 1918. After attending Base Signal School, he served in the 317th Divsion in France. Godwin was discharged on 12 June 1919 and he returned home to Isle of Wight County to work on his father's farm. Later, Paul and his wife Laura D. Godwin (1908-1988) resided in Isle of Wight County. Paul Godwin died 18 August 1978 and is buried in Uzzell United Methodist Church cemetery.
