the eight years that the award has been given. Three girls from the chapter have won the State Homemakers Degrees for their outstanding contributions to home, school, and community. The Future Farmers of America have received awards in the following fields of judging: Degree Team-state, 1957, 1962-Federation, 10 yrs. Forestry Judging-state, 1954, 1958-Federation, 8 yrs. Crops Judging-state, 1959, 1961-Federation, 2 yrs. Dairy Judging-state, 7th. in 1953-Federation, 2 yrs. Shop Judging-state, H. Leonard 5th. in 1960-Federation, 3 yrs. Public Speaking-state, Ed Davis 3rd. in 1956-Federation, 5 yrs. State Chapter Contest-3rd., 1960-1st., 1961-5th., 1962 The FHA and FFA have participated each year in the fourteen-County Farm Show held at Lynchburg Stadium. Other clubs, organizations, and teams contributing to the award-winning history of the school are the following: the Dramatics Club, District Champions in 1959 and 1961 in Dramatics (Virginia High School League); Annual Staff, first place rating for eight years, trophy winner in 1956 (Va. H. S. League and Southern Interscholastic Press Association); Newspaper Staff, honor awards (VHSL); Girls' Basketball, Tournament winners in 1957 and 1963 (District IV, Group II, (VHSL); Boys' Basketball, Tournament winners in 1960 and 1961 (VHSL); Baseball, Champions in 1961 (VHSL). Clubs in the school that give scholarship awards to deserving students of W.C.H.S. are the Monogram Club, Commercial Club, and Beta Club. The Science Club sponsors a Science Fair for the purpose of promoting students' knowledge and general interest in science through individual participation.
