The girls physical education department sponsors the annual May Day, a highlight of the year. The school participates each year in the forensics, creative writing, and debating contests sponsored by the Virginia High School League in which the school receives ratings and recognition. In cooperation with the Parent Teachers Association and the Guidance Department of the school, the student Cooperative Association cooperates in the observance of Parent's Night at the school in the early fall. A banner league since, 1951, the S.C.A. also sponsors an Orientation Day for the seventh grades of the feeder schools in the spring. The fine arts department promotes interest in the cultural aspects of the student's life through exhibits and participation in school and community programs. This year William Campbell's first football team appeared on the scene to replace the three year old soccer team. In addition to football, William Campbell now participates in interscholastic basketball, baseball, volleyball, track and football. The boys' teams are known as the GENERALS; the girls teams are the GENERALETTES. The school colors are navy blue and grey. Mr. James E. Strickler has served as principal of William Campbell High School since its founding in 1951.
