Y. W. C. A. One of the helpful organizations in modern schools for girls is the Y. W. C. A. The organization with us has had a good record so far. Most of the girls belong to it, and the features of such organizations generally have been carried out. We want every girl in the Institute to become identified with the movement. The regular meetings occur once a week.
Education The following sayings are taken from the pens of a few of the standard authors. Each one has a message for you: "Much may be made of a Scotchman if he be caught young."--Samuel Johnson. "'Tis education forms the common mind, Just as the twig is bent and the tree's inclined."--Pope. "Slavery is but half abolished, emancipation is but half completed, while millions of free men with votes in their hand are left without education."--Robert C. Winthrop. "Education commences at the mother's knee, and every word spoken within the hearsay of little children tends toward the formation of character."--Hosea Ballou. "Enflamed with the study of learning and the admiration of virtue; stirred up with high hopes of living to be brave men, and worthy patriots, dear to God, and famous to all ages."--Milton. "The trust purpose of education is to cherish and unfold the seed of immortality already sown within us; to develop, to their fullest extent, the capacities of every kind with which the God who made us has endowed us."--Mrs. Jamison
