Virga Sct Know all men by these prsents that wee Thomas Godwin Junr and Edmd. Godwin of Nansemd County are held & firmly bound & Indebted unto the Honble Alexandr Spotswood her Majties Lieut Governor & Comander in Chief of this Colony & Dominion & his Successors in the Sum of Eighty pounds of Lawfull Money to the paymt whereof well & truely to be made and Done wee Bind our Selves & every of us our & every of Our heirs Exrs and Admrs Jointly & Severally firmly by these prsents Witness Our hands & Seals this 25h Day of March Anno Domo 171[illegible blot of ink] The Condition of this Obligation is such that If the Above bound Thomas Godwin Junr Shall and do Erect & Build at Nansemond Town one house fifty foot long & Twenty foot wide framd & well Coverd and one other house Twenty foot Square framd & well Coverd According to the Directions of the Comissionrs Appointed by the honble the Lieut Governr and Compleatly finish the sd Buildings by the 10th Day of November next Comeing and likewise make a good & Substantial wharfe at the sd Town of Nansemond then this Obligation to be void & of none effect Otherwise to remain in full force & Vertue Thos.
