Are the plffs descended in the maternal line that is through their mother's grandmothers &c from the woman Rachael mentioned in the deed of emancipation made by Jordon Anderson the elder father of the said Jordon the younger your father of date the 7th of April 1790 and also mentioned in the will of Jordan Anderson the elder of date the 1st of January 1805 & have they been always by all persons in your family & in the family of your grandfather the said Jordan Anderson the younger reputed & believed to be descended from the said Rachael.   Answer  All the plff are descended from a woman named Rachael owned by my father & I have heard my father say this woman whom he had owned from 1783 or 4 was the same woman attempted to be manumitted by his father by the deed of 1790 & his will of 1805.    Interg 4  Has the belief been uniform and general in said family.    Answer  As far as I know the uniform belief of the family has been that they plffs are all descended from Rachel who was owned by my father & others & that she is the same Rachel refered to in the deed of emancipation, I remember her in 1806 soon after the death of my grandfather Jordon Anderson the

[right page] elder there was a question as to whether this woman who was in my father possession & had been from my earliest recollection was or not entitled to freedom. Some investigations made in regard to my father title it being admitted by all the family that this woman belonged to my father independant of the will of my grandfather he was permitted to retain her. Interg 5 Did you know the woman Rachael and how old was she when you first remember to have known her. Answer. I was born in 1786 I knew Rachel as soon as I was capable of knowing any one, my earliest recollection of her as far I can now recall it was that she was a young woman with two or three children & I should suppose she was about 25 years of age. Interg 6 How long did your grandmother the widow of said Jordan Anderson the elder survive her husband & when did she die Answer She survived her husband about three weeks and died about Jany 1806. Interg 7 Are the plff in your possession under claim of ownership & how long have they been so. Ans They are & have been ever since I had possession of them as stated in my answer in 2 Interg.
