Alexandria County to wit -- know all men by these presents that I J C McCracken of Alexandria County am held and firmly bound to the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Sum of $600 00/100 to be paid to the said Commonwealth for the payment of which I bind my heirs Executors and Administrators, sealed with my seal and dated Sep 5th 1853[.] The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas complaint was made to the County Court of Alexandria County September term 1853, by a man of colour named Bob residing in said County in the possession of J C McCracken to whom the said Bob was hired by Silas Hutchinson for the year 1853, & the said County Court having made order summoning J C McCracken to attend to answer the said complaint, & to give bond as the statue in such case requires[.] Now if the above bound J C McCracken shall suffer the said Bob to appear at the next Court of the County of Alexandria for the purpose of maintaining his suit for the recovery of his freedom then the above obligation to be tried, otherwise to remain in full force[.] J C McCracken (Seal)
