a Codicil to his last Will and testament other than the one so destroyed as aforesaid. That Administrations of all and singular the goods and chattels rights and credits which were of the Said Joseph Holmes in his lifetime with the Will annexed was on the 8th day of October 1811 committed to the Defendant in due form of Law. By the County Court of Kanawha County in the following Words, "On the Motion of John Reynolds who made Oath according to law, and with John Wilson and Andrew Donnally, Jr. his Securities, entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Two thousand five Hundred Dollars Certificate is granted him for obtaining Letters of administration of the estate of Joseph Holmes deceased. With his Will heretofore proved and recorded in this Court annexed in due form. That on the 13 day of August 1811 a Writing purporting to be a copy of the last Will and Testament of the Said Joseph Holmes was presented to the County Court of the said County of Kanawha, and the same with the testimony in support thereof was committed to record and is in the following words and figures (viz) A Writing purporting to be the Copy and Substance of the last Will and testament of Joseph Holmes deceased was presented in Court, and ordered to record which Will and Testament supporting the said Will is in words following Viz, In the name of God amen I Joseph Holmes of the County of Kanawha do Constitute and ordain this my last Will and Testament. Item 1st. Its my Will and desire that my negroe man Lemmon shall have and enjoy his freedom after my death, and for his attention and friendship during my illness it is my further Will and desire that he should have my Sorrel Horse with a saddle and Bridle and Ten Dollars in Cash. Item 2nd. I will and bequeath my gold watch to Andrew Donnally. Item 3rd. I will my timepiece to Goodrich Slaughter. Item 4th. I will and bequeath unto my Sister Elizabeth McGuire all the residue of my estate both real and personal, after paying all my just debts and funeral expences.[expenses].
