The Deposition of Charles H L West a witness in the above cause taken at Dunlops tavern in Prince Georges County Maryland, a commission being waived by consent of parties: both parties being represented at the taking of the same, on this seventh day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight. Charles H L West, a witness for the Defendant being first duly sworn makes oath to the truth of the following answers to the following interrogatories. Questions by Defts 1st. Have you any interest in the above suite? Ans. none whatever. 2d. Were you personally acquainted with the late Stephen West of Prince Georges Co. and also with a mulatto man named Charles Jackson who was in the employment of said Stephen West? Ans. Stephen West was my Father. and I knew Charles Jackson well all the time he was in my Father's employment - or lived with him - since my recollection. 3d. Were you or were you not manager for your Father while Charles Jackson was in his employment or lived with your Father? Ans. I was. 4th. How long is it since your Father died? Ans. He died in the year eighteen hundred and thirty to the best of my recollection. 5th. Did you know negress Rebecca, the wife of Charles Jackson & did you know their children? Ans. I did know the children but not the wife. 6th. Do you know any thing about a contract said to have been make between the said Stephen West, and the said Charles Jackson for the manumission of said Jackson[']s wife
