town early to have some photos printed. Andy & I came down later. We had a great experience c a drunken taxi who charged us 2 frances to get us to the Etsoil [Étoile?] & then confessed ignorance of the Place de la Concord when we wished him to carry us further. There was nothing to do but to discharge him to return to [hivest?] his 2 frains in a fresh supply of liquor. We all took dinner down town & then took three ladies to the Follies, Miss Marsh, Miss Drake & Miss Heule. Very good show. But expensive. Sat in two boxes & rode in 6 taxis during the afternoon. Ev. & Andy spent the night c us. Sept 11 15 One week from today we sail. Bought our tickets today & invested 125 francs in a few petty gifts to take home. A few days ago we each received a communication from the police to the effect that we appear at the Hotel de Ville the night morning to explain why we had a conspicuous illumination in our windows at 8:20 on the night of Sept 7th. We appeared a day late & instead of fining us the "chief bug" begged our pardon & proceeded to explain why it had been necessary to do
