Auditing Board Thursday April 30th 1863

A communication from Col. L. R. Smoot Q. M. Genl of Va in regard to certain captured property including negroes ^ represented to have been disposed of by Col. Clarkson 3d Regt Va State Line & no returns of said property having been made the Clerk of the Board is instructed to send Col. Clarkson a copy of the following letter:

Office of Auditing Board of Va. Richmond April 30th 1863.

Col. Jno. N. Clarkson Sir

I am instructed by the Auditing Board of Va. to inform you that they have received information of the capture by the State Line under your command, of slaves & other property, & that no return has been made of the disposition made of this property & they direct me further to state that some return ought to be made that those in whose possession it is may be made accountable to the State, & that if sold some account of sales should be rendered.
