To the Honorable The Speaker & members of the Legislation of Virginia. Your petitioner humbly Sheweth that some time since his loaned to a Mr. Tidence [Same?] of the County of Claiborne & State of Tennessee a sum of money amounting to eleven hundred & twenty six Dollars: & received as a Security for the repayment of the same, a mortgage on the following Slaves, viz Alice, Lucinda, Samuel, Isabel, Peter & Robert. Your Petitioner further represents, that the time in which the said sum of money was to be paid to your Petitioner is now about to expire, & that the said Tidence is wholly unable to pay him the same, having entirely failed in trade. And the said Tidence being unwilling to have this above mentioned Slaves Sold under the mortgage; is desirous that your Petitioner should take them into possession, & hold them as a pledge for the pay[ment]
