To the Hon'ble [Honorable] the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Petition of Joseph Beard a resident of the County of Loudoun, humble sheweth, that your Petitioner has by Intermarriage with a Citess of the State of Maryland, become intitled [entitled] to the following Negros viz. Nelly, Polly, Charles, Harry & Peter, which said Negros, under the existing Laws of this Commonwealth, he is not at liberty to import into this State. Your petitioner having been a resident of this Commonwealth for a number of years and being still a resident, prays that by a special act of the Legislature he may be authorized to import the said slaves into this Commonwealth and that his title thereto may not be nulled or impaired by any existing Statute.
