Marion County Court February Term 1849 William J Willey this day produced in court (present Justices Hess Musgrave, Haymond Moore & Watson) an instrument of writing emancipating and setting free his slave Rebecca, whereupon the said William J Willey acknowledged the same in open Court, and the said instrument of emancipation is ordered to be recorded. In these words to wit: Know all men by these presents that I William J Willey of the county of Marion in the state of Virginia have emancipated & set free & by these presents do emancipate & set free my negro slave Rebecca, and do hereby renounce all right title and interest which I have in and to the person or services of the said Rebecca.
