We Thomas A. Jones & Francis Moody being called on by Mr. Thomas Reekes to say what in our opinion was the value of a negroe name Frank, the property of the said Reekes, who died whilst in the custody of the Jailor of the sd. county do on our Oath declare that we well knew said negroe Frank, that he was generally a healthy negroe an do further say, that we saw him in a small time after he was arrested, and at the time he was examined before the magistrate who committed him, he appeared to be a negroe enjoying a good share of health, and do further say that the labour of the said negroe was absolutely necessary for the support of the said Thomas Reekes' family and that he was the only male labourer the said Reekes was possessed with and do further say that he was worth the sum of one hundred & thirty pounds.
