Orange Novr. 12th 1772 I do hereby certify that I was by desire of Mr. William Taylor to visit a negro man of his named Humphrey on the 26 Octr last[.] Mr. Taylor informed me that sd. Negro had been lately taken from the Fredericksb[ur]g. Gaol [Jail] where he was confined under sentence of death and that I found him very much disordered both in body and mind he having several ulcers then running which appeared to be occasioned by the tightness of irons cold and other ill treatment while in confinement and am of opinion that sd. treatment was the cause of his death[.] Given under my hand the above mentioned[.] Charles Taylor Test Charles P.
