Norfolk County Sct Personally appeared before me Richard Blow a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid. Thomas Godwin of the Town of Portsmouth, and made oath that he was well acquainted with Robert Godwin late of the County of Nansemond deceased, that during his acquaintance with the said Robert Godwin he had frequently heard him say that it was his intention and determination to set free his Negro man Benjamin on account of the faithful services which the said Benjamin had rendered him. And the said Thomas Godwin further made oath, that those declarations were made by the said Robert Godwin many years prior to the year Eighteen hundred & six and the said Thomas Godwin further made oath that he has frequently heard the said Robert Godwin (prior to the year Eighteen hundred and
