To the Hon'l the Legislature of Virg.a The petition of Saml. Keiningham exor. of Thos. Moody decd [deceased], humbly sheweth, that the said Moody by his last will and testament, Emancipated a certain female slave, named Laury, from the time she arrived at the age of twenty one years directing in his said will, that said slave should Be put with some person to learn the art of weaving untill she attaind to that age, praying at The same time that the legislature would permit the said slave to enjoy her freedom, your petitioner Having obey[e]d the directions of his testator, and said Girl Laury having come to the age of 21 years, Joins in The prayer of his testator that your Honl body will pass a law authorising the said Laury To injoy her freedom within the limits of this state[.] Your petitioner is apprized of the power Given to The county courts by an act of the Last Session of The legislature, but has forborn to apply to the Court of his county, not knowing of any extra ordinary
