To the Honourable the speaker and other members of the house of deligates of the General assembly of Virginia The petition of Tyree G. Bacon Guardian for Rowland Ward an infant: Humbly represents, that the said Rowland has lately acquired of an uncle living in Hillsboro, North Carolina the right to a negro woman named Nell, which he is desireous to remove into this state in the County of Nottoway, where the land & all the other property of the said Rowland has ever been, being his native place of residence: Your petitioner begs leave to state that he lives at the distance of at least one hundred and twenty five miles from the said negro Nell, that the expence & trouble attending the hire would more than consume the profits arising therefrom; that it must be well known to your Honourable body that he has not the right of selling or exchanging his ward's property, altho' he is at the same time in duty bound to protect it, your petitioner conceiving it his duty, therefore prays that your Honourable body will pass a law authorising [authorizing] him to bring the said property of his ward into the County of Nottoway where he has every prospect of settling himself for life; and your petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray &c [etc.]
