To the Honourable Senate and House of Deligates composing the Legislature of the commonwealth of virginia - Whereas David burruss a free man of colour whom was raised a slave by a certain Mr. thomas Burruss of virginia orange county and after raising said Slave Migrated or removed himself into the state of North carolina Surrey county where he lived the ballance of his Life, and after his Decease the sd Slave David by frugal industry Bought his freedom from the heirs of sd. estate and they Sent on to the legislature of north carolina to immancipate the sd. Slave and Give him a sir name which was exceeded to and they Gave him the name of David Burruss and he the sd. David burruss Being Dissirous to remove himself Back into the state of his nativity, virginia, prays that an act may pass to that effect, and your petioner further and most humbly prayeth that he may Bring with him his wife polley a slave into the state above named and hold her as a slave as he the sd. David Burruss have since the time of his immancipation by the industry of his hands purchased her and your petioner prays that an act may pass to that effect and shall ever pray &tc
