Or make a very considerable sacrifice in the sale in the sale of his lands[.] It strikes your petitioner that the intention of the legislature was to prevent persons from purchasing lands in this state and setting themselves and slaves upon, and slaves being brought into the state for speculation and not to affect a citizen who has merely made a temporary removal into another state with an intention of returning back to his own lands again Your petitioner forbars making any further remarks upon his case but confidently rests it with the wisdom of the General Assembly and in duty bound will pray &c [etc.].
