petitioner most earnestly entreats your honourable body, to permit him to do an act, to which he is impelled by all these considerations; to allow a whole life of unusual, if not of extraordinary merit, to be rewarded; and to suffer this faithful slave to spend the remainder of his days, in the enjoyment of freedom, and in the bosom of his family. Your petitioner therefore prays that an act may pass allowing him to emancipate the said slave John Brown, with the privilege to him, of remaining in this state, upon any conditions that may seem proper.
