We the undersigned Citizens, and inhabitants of the County of Pocahontas, do hereby certify that we have been acquainted for a number of years with the character of Ben, man of Colour, who was emancipated or set free by the Will of Jacob Warwick decd, that we have no hesitation in saying that he has always supported an extraordinary good character, and that his obtaining permission to remain in the Commonwealth & reside within this County would meet with the approbation of the people of the County generally - Given under our hands &c [etc.].
