We the subscribers citizens of Norfolk County take great pleasure in testifying to the correct moral deportment of Benjamen Godwin & his daughter Elizabeth Godwin - and having learnt that he has petitioned the Legislature of Virginia to grant to his daughter permission to remain in the State as a free person of colour, we most earnestly unite in the object of that petition and Humbly pray the Honorable the General Assembly of Virginia to pass an act granting such permission to said Elizabeth Godwin[.] Richd.
