To the speaker and members of the Legislature of Virginia The Petition of Edward Woodson, respectfully represents that he has been lately emancipated by his former master, Maj[or] Frederick Woodson of Powhatan, in consequence of the fidelity and zeal with which your petitioner discharged the various duties which appertained to him, as the slave of his master.
