Powhatan County; to take into their grave consideration, the case of your petitioner, that he be not forever removed from the scene of his earliest friendships, his Youthful enjoyments, and of his fondest hopes; and grant to your petitioner the liberty of living within this commonwealth, and your petitioner will ever pray. We the Undersigned Freeholders and residents of Powhatan County beg leave to represent to the honourable the General Assembly of Virginia, that from our knowledge of the trusty services of Edward Woodson to his late Master from his upright conduct, honesty and general character, we beli[e]ve the said Edward Woodson a proper object to be relieved from the restrictions imposed by the act concerning the emancipation of slaves, and most willing by subscribe to his petition to the Honourable the General Assembly to be permitted to live within this commonwealth.
