To the County Court of Powhatan, Gent: Being informed that Abraham who has been emancipated by my late Husband John Depp could not remain in the County of Powhatan without the permission of the Court, I feel it a duty I owe him as well as myself to state my great anxiety that the Court should grant him the liberty he prays for. His services to me in my old age, being near my person, and being always oblidging and dutifull in executing my wishes would render it a circumstance of sincere regret for him to leave me. His Character I doubt not will be proven to be unexceptionable as I know it myself to be above question. Very respectfully Gent'n I yr obl St [Gentlemen I am your obedient servant]. Elizabeth Depp
