To the Honorable the Speakers and Members of both Houses, of the General Assembly of Virginia, The Petition of Winney a black Woman of the County of Monongalia now Preston late the property of Aaron Royse, Deceased of Said County by her next Friend Moses Royce of said County (Son of the aforesaid Aaron Royce) Humbly Sheweth that in consideration of the many important Services Rendered by the said Winney to the said Aaron for Upwards of Twenty Years and particularly for her unequaled attention to him in his last Illness which was tedious and lingering he having died of a Cancer in the Nose Mouth & Throat and by his last Will and Testament directed that the said Winney should ever after his decease be a Free Woman, during her natural life. She will give the aforesaid Moses Royse one Peter Mason, Amos Roberts, and Benjamin Trimbly all of Preston County Security for her never becoming Expensive to the County or Commonwealth and for her uniform good behavior & conduct Therefore she by her said Friend Moses Royse Prays that a Law may pass freeing her agreeable to the last Will & Testament of her late Master Aaron Royse Deceased & that she may reside in this State
