I the undersigned certify that I was called upon to value the slave Jim belonging to Capt Robert V Davis once condemned for rape to be transported. That upon my valuation and testimony the County Court of Prince Edward fixed the value of the said slave if [illegible] [with?] a knowledge of his [illegible] of eight hundred dollars. That I believe that not [illegible] [day?] the said offence over the knowledge of it [illegible] purchases could easily have been [illegible] for the said slave who would have given Eleven hundred dollars for him but for a large scar on the negro's throat produced by its having been cut in the Court House while the said slave was on trial. That scar I believe once [illegible] believe [experience? expence?] his saleable value at least [seven?] hundred dollars. Given under my hands this 20 day of February 1860[.] R M Booker
