To the Honorable the Speaker & other Members of the Legislature. The petition of Zebulon Kankey at present of the State of Maryland Humbly shewith that in consequence of an engagement with a gentleman of the county of Prince William & State of Virginia, he is constrained to remove to said county and might suffer materially by failing to fulfill his said engagement, wishing on his part to fulfill & ratify every contract or engagement entered into & at the same time being very unwilling to part with the five negroes hereafter described, To wit, William, Elizabeth, Stephen, Kitty, George & Henry principally house servants & who have all been raised by your petitioner & his family, and your petitioner therefore feels a reluctance in parting with them & he at the same time [illegible] this Honorable body that he does not wish to introduce into this State the above described Slaves, with a view of barter or traffic but wishes to retain
