To The Honble the Speaker and Gentlemen of the House of Delegates. The Petition of Robert Keeling[,] Robert Langley and Simon Stone Humbly sheweth - That in year 1776 orders were issued by the Committee of Safety for the removal of the male slaves above the age of sixteen years, from the lower Countys at that time invaded by Dunmore, that in consequence of the order a negroe by the name of Peter the property of your petitioner Keeling, one other named Lewis the property of your Petitioner Langley and one other named Frank the Property of your Petitioner Stone were taken and have since that time been in employed in the service of this state at the lead mines. Your Petitioners therefore pray that they may receive orders for the delivery of the said negroes & that compensation may be made them for the services of the negroes during the time they have been employed in the Publick Service, & your Petitioners as in duty bound shall pray.
