The Deposition of John Thorowgood being of lawful age & first sworn on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God, Deposeth and saith, That some time in the month of April or June in the year 1776 a party of Troops under the command of Captn. George Nicholas as he was informed by some of the party took away a certain Negroe Fellow the property of Thomas S. Thorowgood and the same Negroe was by this Deponent hired out by him as Guardian to the said Thomas unto the said William, and that also he the said Deponent saith that he was to be carried unto the Guard House at the Great Bridge, and that he never heard or understood that he was ever returned unto this deponent and he believes that the said William did apply for the aforesaid Negroe. 12th October 1788. The above deposition was this day made Oath to by John Thorowgood before me. Thomas Kempe J. P.
