To the honorable, the general afsembly of the commonwealth of Virginia The petition of Sally Brown humbly sheweth: That Doctor Robert Brown, formerly of the city of Richmond, did, in his lifetime,emancipate your petitioner, and her brother Billy Brown, while they were infants; and by his last will devised and bequeathed to the said Billy Brown certain real and personal estate: that the said Billy Brown is now dead, intestate. and without wife or issue: that he contracted several debts, and was particularly chargeable with one due to your petitioner under aforesaid last will of the said Robert Brown: that your petitioner is advised, that the act of emancipation aforesaid did [illegible] capacitate her to inherit the estate of the said Billy Brown; but that a great portion thereof is vested by right of escheat in the commonwealth. Your petitioner therefore prays, that the general assembly will be pleased to release the the said right of escheat, and to suffer her to succeed to the estate of the said Billy Brown, subject to his debts. And, as is duty bound, your petitioner will ever pray &c [etc.].
