The bearer hereof Christ. McPherson a free Man of Colour has been known to the Undersigned for some time, but more particularly Since his residence in this County about three Years, last past in the Capacity of Principal Clerk to David Ross Esquire. And we have never known or heard of his being ill disposed or Riotous - but to the Contrary. We have a heart felt Satisfaction in declaring, as a Small tribute to his distinguished Merit. That he has uniformly demean'd himself as a quiet, peacable, and well disposed Citizen of these United States. Given under our hands in Fluvanna on Monday the 6th day of May 1799.
