Virginia Norfolk 2nd September 1799 Dear Sir This I expect will be delivered to you by Mr. Christopher MacPherson a Native of this State - he visits the Northward for the benefit of its climate, and the pleasure of Seeing the Country. Permit me to introduce this man to your Notice, as one I have long known in that elevated Station of principal Clerk to David Ross Esquire of this State, a Gentleman, whose eminent abilities extensive Concerns, and immense possessions in this State, and to the Southward and Westward, very justly entitles him to the Rank of one of the first private characters on the Continent. Mr. McPhersons well established abilities and unimpeachable character accompanied with an agreeable and inoffensive disposition, form. The best possible apology for a Colour he cannot help. Being perfectly Satisfied of the humane disposition you possess, of encouraging Merit wherever found; the more readily induced me most earnestly to Solicit your hospitable attentions and your good offices to him.
