Charlottesville, 24th of May 1800 Sir, The bearer hereof Christopher McPherson proposing to go to Philadelphia in pursuit of employment as a Clerk. I beg leave to interest your philanthropy in his behalf, and to implore your assistance in procuring him a situation suitable to his rare merits. He has been in my office for some time past, and in several of my late communications you have a specimen of his penmanship. On that head, nothing that I could say, would add to the good opinion which you have, doubtless, formed of his capacity for business. His other qualifications which are highly important in a clerk, equally entitle him to a preference, over many engaged in that line.
