Christopher McPherson, the bearer hereof, officiated for some time as a clerk in my office, and it is with much pleasure that I am enabled to pay that tribute of approbation which his conduct so justly merits. In his business, he was uncommonly dexterous and accurate, in his demeanor unexceptionable. Having engaged a young gentleman to assist me, previous to my acquaintance with Mr. McPherson, it became necessary on his arrival for Mr. McPherson to remove. Mr. McPherson during his residence with me conducted himself with modesty, diligence and good morals. Wm: W: Hening Charlottesville 24th May 1800
