To the Hon. [Honorable] The General Assembly of Virginia The Petition of Jasper Sherwin called Jasper Graham most respectfully represents. That your petitioner & his wife Mary were for a great number of years servants of the late John Graham Esq. of Richmond during all which period they have demeaned themselves as honest, faithful, servants. That their late master in consideration of their faithful services was pleased to direct their emancipation. That moreover they have been enabled to acquire the confidence & good opinion of the most respectable citizens of Richmond in proof of which is submitted the accompanying certificates. Your Petitioner Jasper therefore prays that an Act may pass your honorable body permitting him & his wife Mary to reside within this Commonwealth - & your Petitioner will ever pray &c &c [etc. etc.].
