Item, I desire and order that my slave Jasper shall be Emancipated and set free by my executor so soon after the expiration of the present year (1820) as he the said Jasper may request, and from the day of his Emancipation, that my executor pay him the yearly sum of fifty dollars for and during the term of ten years only, after which no yearly sum whatever is to be paid him; but at that period I give him a legacy of two hundred and fifty dollars in full of what I mean to give him. As I purchased the said Jasper prior to the passage of the law which forbids emancipated negroes to remain in Virginia, and as it was stipulated in the bill of sale made to me for him, that he should be emancipated after the said present year of 1820, I presume he will be entitled to remain in Virginia after he is emancipated whenever he shall after the said present year 1820 request it. Item I direct and order that my slave Mary (wife of the said Jasper) shall be emancipated by my executor whenever she may request it; but in the mean time that she may live with her husband if she cho[o]ses to do so and from the day of her Emancipation, I direct that my ex'or shall pay her the yearly sum of thirty dollars for her seperate use, free from the controul of her husband for the term of fifteen years only, after which no yearly sum whatever is to be paid her, but at that period, I give her a legacy of one hundred and fifty dollars in full of what I mean to give her.
