Lewis Bolaks Petition Dec. 13 1824 ref. to Cts of J. [referred to Courts of Justice] 1824 Decr 21st Reasonable

Q.B. Harvie Delegate of the City of Richmond Richard Morris of Hanover

We the Subscribers have been long acquainted with Lewis Boler a free man of colour & have always considered him a sober, honest, industrious & highly exemplary in his deportment. We understand that he is petitioning the Hustings Court of the City of Richmond for permission to reside in this State. We wish him success most heartily, for from our acquaintance with him & from what we have heard of his acts of extraordinary merit when in the State of Louisiana so far from objecting we consider that it would be fortunate for society if we had many persons of colour like him residing with us.
