Camp near Shepherdstown Aug. 4th 1864. My dear Father, After a long & tedious march I arrived at the regiment yesterday evening, & found the boys near Bunker HIll ([illegible]12 miles [illegible] Winchester [)]. They were busy cooking up 2 days rations with orders to move at daylight the next morning. We were waked up early & moved to this place near Shepherdstown (our Division & Breckenridge's) Rodes' & Ramseur's Divisions went in the the [sic] direction of Williamsport. I suppose we are undoubtedly bound for "My Maryland". The Yankees are said to be in considerable force at Sharpsburg, on the other side of the river just opposite this place.
