Whereas by an order of Councill beareing date the 3d of March 96 I was Comanded to make inquier what fferryes are in this Cty and what the fares are & to returne account there of to Mr. Secretaries Office : In obedience where unto I doe hereby certifie that I know of but two ferrys Kept in the Cty the one of which is kept at varina by Capt Willm. Soane upon Sundays Court days and other publick days of meeting of ye Justices of ye Cty. for wch he is to be allowd Eight hundred per of Tobo & cask in ye Cty [illegible] the other is kept at Barmoda hundred [by] Samll Knibb, who takes 12d for man & [illegible] and 6d for every foot passenger. 8th day of Aprill 1697 John Wo [Worsham] Sherife
